The news of DNA invasion comes during the week when it was discovered that police may in fact be arresting people who are innocent, simply to access their DNA.

Britain has the largest DNA database of any country in the world, with over 5.6m DNA samples from individual people out of which, a million are estimated to have been found innocent of any offence.

Although authorities are aware of the innocence of these people, they shy away from any course that would lead to the samples being erased from the database.

If a person wants to have their DNA erased after being found innocent of any crime, they must pay a steep bill of £200 for the process, which can take many months to actually get completed.

An unnamed superintendent who is now retired from the Human Genetics Commission stated that it is normal for police to arrest people for little cause as they are then given the power to sample that persons DNA.

The source continued to say that police officers are encouraged that if there is any cause for an arrest, they should precede to do so that the DNA sample can be collected.

Interestingly enough, there is proof that profiling may exist within police forces given the fact that some figures suggest that 75% of all black men between the ages of 18 and 35 have their DNA stored in the database.

If this was happening in some African dictatorship or communist China our Government would be calling it an affront to civil liberties and human rights, rules that do not seem to apply in out western democracy.
