Rich get richer and poor are just poor

According to a new report commissioned by the government, the gap between the poor and the rich within the UK has continued to grow at a steady rate over the last 40 years.

The report looked at areas such as taxes, education, and neighborhood renewal and was conducted by the National Equality Panel.  It found that there are still large differences separating genders and between minority groups and the general population in regards to employment and pay.

Harriet Harman the equalities minister stated that the challenges that are outlined in the report require attention by the government that will need to be sustained to be effective.  She continued to state that the problem needs to be addressed given the fact that every individual has the right to reach their full potential to maintain a strong economy and a peaceful society.

The report found specifically that those from ethnic minorities were much more likely to be paid less for the same level of work as white Britons.

It also found that although women age 44 and younger now are more likely to have better qualifications than their male counterparts, men still receive almost 21% more every hour.

The panel also noted that those in the upper brackets make close to £900,000 per year while those who work in the lower brackets only average about £8,000 per year.  This difference gets even wider when it comes time for retirement and iniquality is passed on from generation to generation.
